Transfer students
If you've completed 15 or more credit hours at another U.S. college or university, then you are considered a transfer student. As with all distance students, you must be admitted to the University of Houston before you can enroll in distance education classes.
At the University of Houston, students who take distance education classes are regular U.H. students. There is no separate application for distance education. You must comply with the application deadlines published for all U.H. transfer applicants.
Advisors in distance education can provide an unofficial evaluation of your transcripts from other institutions and advise you on how your credits are likely to transfer to U.H. Official evaluation of those transcripts will take place when you are admitted and official transcripts have been sent to the Office of Admissions directly from the issuing institutions.
If you have questions about transferring to U.H. and transferring credits, consult a U.H. advisor before you decide to apply. You can get help from either a distance education advisor or an advisor in your program of interest.
Transfer requirements (not for international students)
- Applicants who've completed 15-29 semester hours of college credit must have a 2.5 or higher cumulative grade point average (G.P.A.).
- Applicants who've completed 30 or more semester hours of college credit must have a 2.0 or higher cumulative G.P.A.
- Applicants not eligible to return immediately to the last instituion attended will not be admitted.
- All grades are used in computing the grade point average including grades for repeated courses.

If you pick up a paper application, remember the paper application for transfer students is different from the freshman application.
As part of your application, you'll need to request that official copies of your transcripts be mailed directly to the U.H. Office of Admissions from your previous institutions.
